My Dyptique Experience and Fleur de Peau

A few weeks ago, I watched a video of Sandara Park’s ‘What’s in my bag?’. I found her perfume choices interesting. I’m easily tempted to buy when perfumes are used or recommended by influencers and celebrities.

The first one featured was the Buly 1803 Eau Triple Iris de Malte in which she uses for daily activities. She described it as a soft, baby soap scent. The second was Lush Zesty. The third perfume was an Hermes. I’ve tried or currently have common luxury brands, and at the moment I’d prefer something different.

I checked Buly 1803, however, I can’t find this exact perfume available in Selfridges. And on the search results, this is how I was introduced to the oldest pharmacy in the world, Santa Maria Novella, and Dyptique. I may write a separate blog for the perfume I bought from Santa Maria Novella.

Dyptique

Dyptique is a French perfume and candle brand established in 1961. I’ve heard of this brand before but never really had the chance to try. So, I went to Tiktok and Youtube to checkout reviews and one of the perfumes that stood out was the L’Eau Papier Eau de Toilette.

I purchased a bottle of L’Eau Papier. The good thing of purchasing perfumes from this brand is they include a sample of the purchased perfume so you can have a chance to try it and if the customer doesn’t like it, the product can be returned. The brand also sent me a welcome gift which is a perfumed lined notebook and another 2 samples I selected on checkout. The items were in Dyptique cloth bags (fancy, I know!).

When I tried L’Eau Papier, it was really nice. However, once it settled on my skin there was this sharp inky scent which I didn’t like. In that purchase, I had 2 samples which are Fleur de Peau and Lilyphea. I immediately fell in love with both but Lilyphea was quite expensive (£255 for 100 mL) and I can’t justify the price for a perfume. So I decided to get Fleur de Peau (£153 for 75 mL).

Fleur de Peau

The first spray immediately made me fall in love. It has that classic musk scent, but once it settled on my skin, it evolved to a soft floral musk. This perfume can be categorised as a skin scent, it definitely smelled natural and not overbearing.

The scent lingered up to 5 hours. Unfortunately, not good longevity power compared to Philosophy. Still, I’m happy to keep it.

I also bought the Fleur de Peau hair mist in 50 mL. It would be nice if they also make a solid perfume of this, I’d definitely buy!

Final Thoughts

Is it worth it? I’d be honest the price of Dyptique perfumes, in general, are very expensive. There are cheaper perfume alternatives but I’m very selective on scents and it’s difficult to find something I will really like. The smell of Fleur de Peau is like a classic musk, cottony, soapy scent – very natural.

Another scent I’d consider to buy is Lilyphea, the scent makes me think of a fresh crispy green forest. If you like fresh scents, this is also a good option.

Make sure to take advantage of free samples and if you are not happy with the scent, send it back. For the price you pay, you have to be sure you are happy with it.
