Postcard Series: Kalinawan Resort in Samal Island, Philippines

I’ve mentioned in one of my previous posts that Mindanao in the Philippines is a great place to visit. There are a lot of hidden gems and if you love adventure, it’s the place to be.

If you’re in Davao City, Samal Island is a place you shouldn’t miss! This small island is part of Davao del Norte but you can reach it via Davao City. Way back in 2014, we visited Kalinawan Resort and booked it exclusively.

The set-up of the resort is very laid-back. The beds with attached mosquito nets are in an open room on the first floor. It’s a perfect place to stay if you wanted to relax and escape from the busy vibe of the city. You can just sit, watch the sunset, feel the cool breeze and listen to the waves of the sea. Paradise.

You can do different activities as there are kayaks, a pool table, floaters to make yourself active and busy! There is also a designated area where you can cook and prepare your food. It’s great for groups.

The only downside I can think of is the shore is quite rocky. But overall, the pros greatly outweigh the con. I love the place and would love to stay again when I’m back in Davao.

Here are some photos a friend and I took. Based on their Facebook page, this resort is still operating.
