My Beauty Box Experience: Birchbox May 2017

Beauty boxes are very popular here in England. A lot of beauty bloggers have subscriptions to some of them. As a newbie to UK cosmetics, why not try it? And it took me a long time to choose which among the brands in the market should I subscribe to. After reading different reviews online, I decided to try Birchbox.

According to Birchbox’s website, it is a New York-based company that sends 5 sample products to its subscribers monthly for a price of £10 plus a shipping fee of £2.95 (total of £12.95/month). Not all subscribers will get the exact items. The price is cheap enough, so I gave it a go.

I ordered my box through their website on a Thursday night and it was delivered on a Monday via Hermes. The delivery time was not bad. The outer box was sturdy enough to protect the main box which is gorgeous!

When I was ordering online, the company was offering Benefit Real Trio sample so I took an advantage and put the code on checkout. Instead of just getting 5 samples, I got 8 which is a good thing.

Inside the Box

Inside the Box Here is the list of items inside my Birchbox May 2017 box:

1. Free Benefit Real Trio:

Tinted primer (3.0g)
Mascara (3.0g)
Waterproof eye make-up remover (7.5mL)

Benefit products have a very good reputation. So, these items are a bonus!

2. Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara (RRP £18*)

It has a jumbo fibre wand that will define each individual lash. Sounds good to me.

3. Caudalie Vine[Activ] Glow Activating Anti-wrinkle Serum (RRP £36*)

This serum promises a shot of anti-cell burn-out complexTM to brighten dull skin and smooth fine lines. Application should be twice a day (AM/PM) for best results. It’s not that I need this one, but I know someone who might.

4. Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow (Fifty Shades) (RRP £14.49*)

The product is made out of natural ingredients which is good for sensitive skin (a plus!). I find this item very handy for a demure touch or a full-on smokey eyes.

5. Spectrum Collections Marbleous C06 Tulip Eye Contour Brush (RRP £4.99*)

This brush has tapered synthetic bristles which is perfect for smudging, blending and defining. One of the items I love in this box! I know I have a lot of brushes but this one is gorgeous!

6. Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray (RRP 19*)

This spray is part texturiser and part dry shampoo which will add instant lift to unwashed hair. This could be useful at some point when I don’t want to shower but have to go out (haha!).

*RRPs correspond to full-size items.

Birchbox Brochure

I found a brochure at the bottom of the box. It has information and tips on how to use the products. The editorial team also included the RRPs which I think is very helpful for customers who want to buy the full-size items.

My Thoughts

I like the products inside. However, most of them are travel size. The two things in full size are Marsk eye shadow and Spectrum contour brush. When I did some calculations based on the RRP, the prices of eyeshadow (£ 14.49) and brush (£4.99) have a total of £19.48. So, more or less the box has a total of £30 (based on my estimate). Given my estimate, I saved a lot of money on this subscription.

Shall I buy the June box? Yes, I will give it a go and hoping it will be better. Most of the items are travel size but I find this way cheaper and convenient than purchasing individual items from the shop.
