Birthdays for me are just ordinary days. What I normally do on my birthdays was reflect, be thankful, have good food and that was about it. Close friends will remember it was my birthday (without that Facebook reminder as I turned it off a long time ago!), and friends in the UK will send me presents which I am always grateful for.
For this year, we decided to celebrate it in Spain – a country I’ve never been to. We enjoyed our all inclusive holiday to Croatia last year so we booked another all inclusive holiday to Menorca, Spain. We’ve used TUI again, and so far so good, never had issues with them.
The TUI holiday we booked included the flights, hotel accommodation (food and drinks) and transfers. We stayed at the TUI Blue Victoria Menorca which was really nice. Plenty of facilities available (including a spa), near the beach, plenty of other restaurants nearby, and friendly staff. We also booked excursions so we could do other things apart from wandering around the hotel or sit by the pool.
We went to Mahon and and Ciutadella de Menorca (old city). Both cities have their own charm but I prefer Ciutadella more due to its old buildings and livelier atmosphere. Before you leave the island, make sure to try Pomada, a Menorcan drink, which is a combination of lemonade and gin. Also, the Ensaymada in Sa Sucreria was the best of all the Ensaymadas I’ve tasted during the holiday!
During our stay in Spain, I used my Monzo card which was very convenient. Make sure you pay using the local currency to save money. Check my Monzo review by clicking this link.
There were a lot more to discover in this lovely island, but we don’t want to be always on the go and prefer to be as laidback as we can to fully enjoy the holiday and relax. I also brought my Kindle with me to read whilst enjoying a glass of drink near the pool.
We celebrated my birthday on the hotel’s rooftop restaurant, and the foods from starter to dessert was lovely! The staff made it more special by singing happy birthday which I was not expecting. My husband also surprised me a big cake which we also shared to the staff. After our dinner, I can barely walk as I was that full!
Overall, it has been a lovely week holiday. Spanish people were lovely, and I was able to use some Filipino words when communicating to them. Just a bit of context, Philippines was colonised by Spain for over 300 years which is the reason why some Filipino words have Spanish origins.
We will definitely travel back to Spain in the future!
